What the Fuscia?!?:
The Colorful Language of Abstract Expressionism

Before The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, there were artists who believed that art might contain the answer to the Ultimate Question: the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

The Abstract Expressionists pursued that ambition with fearless intensity. In the process they threw recognizable subjects out of the room and focused instead on emotion, gesture, and color.

It didn’t always end well.

Like a drunk guest at a party who won’t stop talking about a recent breakup, these artists almost dare you not to like them.

Fortunately for us, they fail completely.

Abstract Expressionism is one of my favorite periods to explore because it’s impossible not to have an opinion. I’ve watched people change their minds in real time—and partners discover they see the same painting in completely different ways.

If you enjoy lively conversation, this is the experience for you.
